GM is a long term investor in UK-based Envisics. The companys' holographic technology enables Augmented Reality Head-Up Displays (AR HUD), an advanced display technology that can display a lot more than speed, etc. GM is the first automaker deploy the Envisics 2nd Generation AR-HUD technology, debuting on the 2024 battery-electric Cadillac Lyriq. The $300k Celestiq is not mentioned. Pretty sure this will not be the HUD that the 2024 Equinox EV will have.

It's very cool, but is it TOO much info and graphics?

“Our collaboration with Envisics is moving into production this year, as we add AR-HUD technology to the all-electric 2024 Cadillac Lyriq,” said Sandy Lipscomb, Senior Manager, Ultifi Design at General Motors, in a statement. “This innovation will further elevate the driving experience in the Lyriq, adding a second plane of graphics that gives drivers more immersive information integrated within their natural field of vision.”

Here is an MP4 video of what the Heads Up Display could look like in use. You may want to download and play locally if it's a slow load on your machine

A similar version, but done in California I think:

The examples above are definitely toned down from what the company was showing 2 years ago:

The first video is so much better. Too much info in the lower one it actually blocks a lot of your view. But could be really helpful if subtle.

I thought so too, Petard. The last video was information and visual overload for a windshield that you are supposed to be looking through. I was happy to see they simplified that mess for what they are demonstrating now. Showing video clips on the windshield should be forbidden as a dangerous and unneeded driver distraction.

I thought the quality of the display, the crispness was excellent compared to what I have seen in videos of other systems.

I have not experienced a HUD in person, but imagine the quality and what's displaced is all over the map. I am curious what the Equinox display will look like, what it will project.

Pay attention to that video again, the vehicle was in Autonomous mode and when the vehicle was changed into manual driving mode all that extra information went Poof.
the vehicle was in Autonomous mode
Thanks, I did indeed miss that in the screen clutter, Nebula.

Does engaging Ultra Cruise equal Autonomous Mode? Assuming it does, would I as the driver want all the video game graphic effects on my windshield? I suppose it's one way to keep me looking forward, haha.

These videos are by Envisics not GM, so it is imagining an imaginary full level 5 Autonomous drive(not Ultra Cruise not FSD...) with a manual mode the driver can engage.

Yes, but... Envisics is promoting this as something the car maker can customize to their car/needs. Engaging Ultra Cruise would qualify for autonomous even if not level 5. So I could see having more details being displayed when in Ultra Cruise compared to manual. Either way, conjecture at this point, we'll start seeing some videos from Cadillac within the next 12 months or so.
