A new compact electric SUV is due out from Cadillac later next year to join it's expanding EV lineup. New footage shows the unreleased Cadillac EV being tested in the US ahead of its official release.

The first thing you will notice is the faux grille, indicating it is, in fact, electric. Next up, the lights are pushed to the outside, flush with the grille, similar to the design of the Lyriq.

You will also notice a bulky back end as it drives by, similar to the recently released electric Explorer for the European market but more compact and elongated.

Last year, Automotive News claimed Cadillac would launch a compact XT4-like electric crossover in late 2024 that would be built at its Ramos Arizpe Assembly plant in Mexico.

Evan's Opinion:
I really like the look of the smaller model as I am a big fan of the new Lyriq. I guess I'm a bit old fashioned and rather have it made in the old Bolt Assembly plant (USA). Oh Well. I am curious to see how much it will cost compared to the higher trim Equinox and Blazer/Prolong twins. I also dig the cool movement of the windshield wipers. Hopefully we get to see the reveal soon!

I forget when the cutoff date was/is, but Cadillac is exclusively EV going forward.

This is what google says" Cadillac plans to exclusively offer all-electric vehicles by 2030, ahead of GM’s plans to do the same by 2035"

The Lyriq added new interior colors making look even more awesome of a car (in addition to added exterior colors).
I'm wondering if the Baby Lyriq is worth the extra dough or not over the Chevy stablemates... I need to see what the interior flavors are all about.
I think GM stated last year that Cadillac would be all electric by 2030. I don’t know if they’re still on track to achieve that date. I compact Cadillac EUV does sound appealing to me.

I will try to follow more of its development and see where they price it. I am assuming this will be equivalent to the Equinox in size as I really don't need anything much bigger.

At least externally, the L232 is the NOX EV’s almost-exact dimensional twin. The key platform dimension - shared wheelbase - 116.3 inch exact match. Shared heights, widths, lengths all within a fraction of an inch. We’ll have to wait to see other features to determine if the L232 is more than just a badge-engineered NOX equal.

Chevy Volt/Cadillac ELR redux perhaps
For North America, the smaller-than-Lyriq Cadillac EV is supposed to be assembled at the same plant in Mexico as the Equinox EV.

I'm aware of 2 Montreal area dealers that have started informal waiting lists until they get more information.

I'm assuming the Cadillac may get a few exclusive features. If the nicer Equinox trims wind up being too expensive, it might be worth it to consider the L232 Cadillac. I'm assuming they'll try to price the base model below $60K Canadian in order to qualify for subsidies and compete with the new lower priced RWD Tesla Model Y.

I haven't even sat in the new Lyriq but I've seen it a few times on the road, it looks sensational. Reviewers were also pleased with its design and handling. I would imagine the Eq have a well-mannered drive. The L232 will have an even smoother ride. I am adding this to my tentative list.
- Chevy Eq
-Fisker PEAR
-Nissan Aryia
-Caddy L232
(in no particular order).
I did a short test drive of the Lyriq at the Montreal Auto Show. It was very nice. Too big and expensive for me, but very comfortable to sit in and drive and nicely appointed interior. IMO, nicer interior than Tesla.

BTW, according to this guy's LinkedIn profile, he manages supplier quality for both the Equinox EV and the Cadillac L232. If he's handling both, it would be reasonable to assume they share some parts...

Yes, the Lyriq is kind of big for my needs, same too with the price. As far as parts both seem not to support a rear wiper unless Cadillac somehow creatively disguised it.

Below is a size comparison of both models:

$60,000 CAD is about $44,000 USD for a Cadillac EV is a pretty good deal prior to incentives. Like the Lyriq I wonder if it will come std w/RWD.

Can't know for sure to what extent it's a rebadged Equinox EV. If it is, RWD is unlikely...

Hopefully, it is more than just a rebadge job. The outside seems to have its own distinct identity.
Cadillac Optiq will most likely be its name.

This is the China-only GT-4 ICE model. My feeling is that a lot of the styling and packing will be really close to the production version of the Cadillac Optiq (L232) EV model.

Doesn't this look a lot like the Equinox EV with some slight variations?

Cadillac red is IMO nicer than both Chevy Reds.
Following Cadillac page specifies 19.2 kW charger model expected Spring 2023. I don't need as much speed, but was wondering (wishful thinking) if the Cadillac EVs, the Silverado EV and the Equinox 3RS with the faster charge speed option will have Vehicle-to-Home with this charger.

GM is mentioning V2H for the Silverado, but I only heard of V2L for Chevy and Cadillac EV (other than pilot projects in California). Being able to power my house during a power outage is worth more to me than powering my fridge with an extension cord to the car. Features Overview | 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ Electric SUV
