EV limbo

I haven’t been posting as much as I have in the past, because I am sort of in Equinox EV limbo.

Really there has been very little new news about the Equinox EV since September, I am all ready to get super excited when there is new news, but that likely is still three months away.

There has been lots of news about other EV’s, but I only want to hear about one.

I don't blame you for feeling isolated. I can't count on the GM site now either for updates but I'm tempted to buy early access tickets for the New York Auto Show to spend some time alone inspecting it. This will be my second and last attempt to try to see one in person and try sitting in one before the official on-sale date sometime next fall. One post did mention that pricing will be made available on the site by summer.

Yes, it would be nice if GM dropped a new tidbit every month until the full details are announced.

It's kind of like reading old posts on the Volt forum from 2009... ;)

This is typical GM. Make an announcement and then crickets until the vehicle is ready to order.

Trade-in: Not sure if this should be a new tread or related to Ev limbo one.

I just looked up the resale value of my current car, the Mazda CX-5 which will still be profitable from what I paid compared to the buyout cost. In 6 months times, the value will go down possibly by a few thousand dollars(?). Does it make sense to just get the 2RS as it is released first to take advantage of additional savings from the trade or wait another 6 months ( a year from now) for the higher trims(where the resale will depreciate even more)?
Has anyone else thought about trading in and the costs associated?

I suppose it depends on your budget and your needs. We don't know yet the price of the trims and options.

As for the depreciation of your current car, it will be slower to depreciate than your new car. If you postpone by 6 month or a year, your old Mazda may be worth a bit less, but the new Chevy's depreciation will start later. If your current car is safe, needs no major repairs and suits your needs, probably no big deal to wait.

I also hope the dealers don't attach a markup on these.

I’m thinking the dealers that have a markup on the Bolt’s right now will for sure markup the Equinox EV’s. In my area, there is only one local dealer that doesn’t have those marked up, but who knows where those tricksters can hide it in the fees.

Some forums offer a listing of dealers that play these games.

Even in jurisdictions where you cannot charge more than retail, some dealers have been trying to get away with it. The following article, in French, mentions that some are selling new cars as used in order to try to get around Quebec legislation.

However, I don't think such behavior is representative of all dealers. If you put in an order to have a new vehicle built and delivered, I suspect that most dealers will sell it at retail. Will they try to sell you extras? Of course. If you refuse delivery of the vehicle, it's now on their lot, it's a model in demand and laws in your province or state allow them to charge more than the suggested price, you can bet they'll charge more.

That said, whether you buy now, in 6 months or in a year if your dealer is going to charge a mark-up, it will be based on the the demand on the vehicle and demand is likely going to be highest when the very low inventory of 2RS limited editions become avaible.
