I’m a little surprised at just how big sources are claiming the Equinox EV will be.

EVs naturally have more space within the same exterior size, over ICE vehicles, which further confuses me.

Has GM actually released dimensions? I have only seen the statements that it will be 7.4” longer, 9” longer wheelbase and 2.8” wider than current Equinox ICE.

That would yield a length 190.5”, wheelbase 116.3”, width 75.4”. That’s big!

In comparison, my 2018 Acadia with 3 rows of seating is 193.6” / 112.5” / 75.4”. Very close.

What further dissuades me from believing those articles that claim 7.4”/9”/2.8” differences is that the NOX EV is to have a total of only 57 cu Ft of cargo space. My Acadia has 79, despite an AWD system with a huge driveshaft running underneath eating into interior space Again, EVs have better packaging. Where did the 20ish cu Ft get lost compared to Acadia?

This just doesn’t add up. Do we have real proof that it will be 190.5” long?

I am more inclined to believe that a publicist misspoke or that a journalist didn’t understand the size comparison being put forth. Maybe they were comparing it to the Bolt EUV?

It’s Auto Show time. I wonder if I can sneak a tape measure unto the display without getting booted?? ;-)

I saw the Equinox at the Montreal auto show and it is longer than the ICE Equinox. Numbers you wrote seem to match what I saw.

Normally, one should not enter a pre-production car. Yannic Asselin (salesman at GM dealership with YouTube channel) went to the same show with an "undisciplined" friend. The friend opened the hatch and put the floor panel of a Bolt EUV in the back of the Equinox (video in French - skip to 5:39 for image):

Try to do this and they may kick you out!

Probably for aerodynamic reasons, the back of the Equinox is tapered. The power height in the back explains the small cargo volume, but as you can see in the video, the floor behind the back seat is considerably larger than that of the EUV.

So, if you plan to have a single layer of grocery bags behind the back seats, you'll have room for many more bags than in the EUV. But if you're Bjørn Nyland filling the car to the top with toilet paper, the Equinox won't do well.

Very interesting. I did look at the video.

Clearly the Equinox EV has more than TWICE the floor space of the Bolt EUV behind the second row of seats.

Yet the Bolt EUV at 169.5” in length is rated at 57 cu Ft cargo capacity with seats down. The SAME as Equinox EV at 190.5”. All due to chopped roofline?

Something is strange.

Another stat to consider:

Mustang Mach E is 4” shorter in length than Equinox. Yet manages 3 additional cu Ft in cargo space with seats folded. If you compare rooflines you can see that GM didn’t chop the NOX more aggressively than the Mach E.

Further consider that the Mach E is a RWD platform (available AWD) whereas Equinox is FWD (available AWD). That should slightly benefit the NOX.

I admit all of these factors are not hard evidence, but I’m a bit leery until Chevy finally releases official numbers. Hoping those come very soon. I want the NOX but due to garage space am curious on size.

My 2018 Acadia has:
12.8 behind the third row (which is completely behind the rear axle)
41.7 behind the second row
79 behind the first row

The 12.8 is definitely included in the 41.7 figure even though it’s behind the third row and BEHIND the rear axle. And - that 41.7 is then fully included in the 79 figure.

It's the height that is the factor in most of these. They start from the highest point above the rear axel.

I'm curious if there will be a next gen Bolt. All that it requires is the Ultium platform, AWD and more range. The size is perfect for me. If the Equinox ends up being their entry level model for Chevy perhaps another GM product could adopt it. I dont know...

If the Equinox indeed grows to 190” long, I have zero doubt GM will introduce a new Bolt, whether under that name or not.
