Ford EV owners will have access to more than 12,000 Tesla Superchargers throughout the U.S. and Canada starting next year.

What's not known is whether the Fords will end up have two ports, one for the L1/L2/CSS standard and another for Tesla. Alternatively, Ford would need to supply adapters for the L1/L2/CCS stations.

Musk must be happy, some Tesla owners not so much.

Looks like just the Tesla NACS: “Ford replied to Green Car Reports: “Gen 2 EVs with the NACS port will have the option of charging at CCS chargers via an adapter.“

So the Ford's will need two adapters, one for L1/L2 and another for CCS. That's a bit of a hassle.
Adapters next year. They will come with two charge ports (CCS and NACS) in 2025.

EDIT: frankly if this pushes other automakers to do the same an open thousands of additional charging options, this is a good thing. Tesla has enough capital to continue building out new charging stations.
Shades of the Leaf Chademo/J-1772 charge port combo. It always looked a mess to me. The CCS fast charging system landscape is rapidly evolving, as the recent CHARlN Testival showed. I still believe that the diversified CCS charging system operators + EV OEMs will get their collective acts together by 2025 and the advantages of fierce competition for your charging $ will make the desirability of a separate NACS port moot.

Two charge ports will need more of a charge port garage, maybe with space for adapters?

Other reports say:
"As part of the pact, Ford said, from the 2025 model year, it’ll switch to Tesla’s open-source North American Charging Standard (NACS) on its vehicles. Meanwhile, existing models that still use the (more or less) global standard Combined Charging System (CCS) will be able to pick up a Tesla-designed adapter to bridge the gap."

That sounds like Ford will not have a J1772 port of any kind starting 2025.

Bizarre move by Ford......the Tesla charging standard is single-phase only, no good for Europe....but then CEO Farley said recently he's not interested in engaging in mass-market competition for EV vehicles....boutique brands only for Ford now, I guess....

🤔

Also, tying Ford to Tesla's coat-tails...?

That's just lame..... 🤣

Ford will ship all its EV customers an adapter to work on Tesla's chargers. Not only does this make Ford look weak
it shows how much loathing Farley has for Musk. The MME was also benchmarked using a Tesla. Musk must live rent-free in Farley's head, lol.

I don't see where it says they'll have 2 ports on Ford cars. Once the transition is completed, I suspect will more likely be a Tesla port with a CCS adaptor.
Well.....Ford really has very little product in the pipeline, it seems to me.....it has the MACH-E that's basically a Model Y clone with a misleading name, a low-range electric Van for business only, and what amounts to an electrified F150 pickup truck that basically costs about a 100 grand in Canada.....and will probably get thumped by the Silverado EV whenever Chevy finally decides to sell them.....

😏

I know people with Teslas out here that never use Tesla supercharging just cuz it's too expensive; they just charge at home or use a free L2 charger at work....like everybody else.

Looks like Ford - or Farley - is basically desperate to change the narrative from the company losing $3 billion a quarter....

😁

Charging at home always preferable. That said, Tesla network clearly best for road trips. I predict Stellantis will be next to choose Tesla connector for NA.

After Stellantis & Ford, will GM be next? I would not mind...

Tesla is acting like a utility co.

Does Stellantis sell any EVs in North America....? Not that I know of....🤔

Plus the Stellantis CEO is not exactly "EV friendly", to say the least.... Tavares is probably promising they'll sell EVs here by 2027 or something....

Pure EVS? Not yet. PHEVS? Several.

Nobody seems to know, including Ford.

No full BEVs here. That's why it's easy to make the announcement now! Nothing to convert!

In Europe, they do have some EVs. I like smaller cars. I'm disappointed they don't plan on selling the Jeep Avenger here.

Why would PHEVs even care about fast charging? There's a generator right there.

Where did you get that I was inferring PHEVS would care about DCFC? I never said that... I was just saying Stellantis has no pure BEVs in the US yet.
