Dicastal North America, an alloy wheel supplier for General Motors and other major car companies, suffered an explosion at their plant in Michigan.

They say that it hasn't affected production, hopefully that ends up being true and doesn't affect any GM vehicles.

They obviously failed pothole testing. :)

Hope everyone's ok.

I can tell you from years of experience of casting molten Aluminum that it can be dangerous in certain circumstances. I believe this particular accident was related to the use of powered aluminum which can be just as dangerous when something goes wrong. The attached picture was taken when we deliberately created conditions for an explosion in a new alloy system known for possible problems when proper casting parameters were not maintained. This test used only 50 lbs. of molten Al-Li alloy dumped into a 12" X 12" X 12" container full of water. We knew it would probably blow, but we were not prepared for this! For scale the board at the bottom of the picture is 18' long and the noise from this explosion was beyond belief.
