Honda has revealed their first EV that will use their own dedicated EV platform, the e:Ny1.

Honda showcased its second fully electric vehicle Friday at a media event in Germany. The new Honda e:Ny1 electric SUV will be the first model to ride on the automaker’s new dedicated EV platform.

Meet the new Honda e:Ny1 electric SUV
The new electric SUV will mark several firsts for the Japanese automaker. According to Honda, the e:Ny1 will feature an all-new design language for Honda EVs, although it looks eerily similar to the gas-powered HR-V model.

The exterior includes white “H” badges around the vehicle and a new “Honda” emblem on the back that will be featured on the automaker’s new electric models.

In addition, the e:Ny1 will be the first to ride on Honda’s new e:N Architecture F. The dedicated EV platform is designed with a low center of gravity and under-floor aerodynamics for a dynamic driving experience.

Powered by a single front motor, Honda’s new B-segment electric SUV delivers 201 hp (150 kW) and 228 lb-ft of torque (310 Nm). With a 68.8 kWh lithium-ion battery, the e:Ny1 has up to 256 miles (412 km) WLTP range and the ability to fast charge from 10% to 80% in 45 minutes.

On the inside, you will find a brand new center console with a simple, modern layout designed for functionality with wireless charging and an extensive 15.1-inch touchscreen infotainment.

The Honda e:Ny1 will go on sale in Europe later this year and is designed to meet the growing demand for electric B-segment SUVs in the region.

I like the color. Exterior reminds me of VW styling.

I wonder why Honda doesn't offer this in the US?

I agree why not in north america and get more market share here, they are already way to far behind in China loosing drastically to BYD and tesla and others. All Japanese auto makers are so far behind/just dont care to go EV.

0 physical buttons meaning more time in distracted just to do simple commands, and if the screen goes blank, the car is almost undrivable (no way to turn on the heater in Canadian winter is a death-wish).

That was my thought too, Maybe. More and more studies show that buttons and knobs are a better UI than a screen for the most common things. Too many screens and menus can be a safety hazard while driving.

It's also going to be over priced. U.S. consumers want EV's in $25,000 to $40,000 land and not over. Thus Tesla dropping prices to move stagnating inventory.

But T just raised prices on everything but the 3 again.

I like it. I think it would sell well in Canada (especially in Quebec). I suppose one of the reasons the Bolt and Bolt EUV did not get the same price cuts as in the US is that they were selling like crazy in Canada despite the higher price.

Conventional wisdom is that smaller cars don't sell in the US. I hope EVs will help change this. The bigger the car, the heavier it is. The heavier it is, the bigger battery it needs. As batteries are the most expensive component of EVs, perhaps the market will shift to smaller, lighter & cheaper EVs. I don't expect this Honda will be cheap, but a Model 3 is not cheap either and this may be more practical for a family.

Honda‘s near-term North American EV market will see the Ultium-based Honda Prologue, co- produced at GM’s Ramos Arizpe plant w/ the Chevy Blazer EV, Equinox EV, etc. Long term, Honda has to complete their own EV platform development and will have to get sufficient non-GM NA-based cell sources, drive units, etc. in place to be competitive here.

Like Toyota, they’re playing catch-up, but unlike Subaru, they signed on early with a competitive NA EV OEM to help them in the transition.

Ford, Stellantis, Honda, Toyota are all scrambling to develop an EV platform. VW and GM were more proactive. But around 2026 or so everyone will have an EV platform.

What I find interesting is that GM is the only one (so far) having one standard platform for everything they make. And GM's the only one talking about a platform that's built to enable bricks to be replaced with new bricks even if a different chemistry or type (prismatic can, cylindrical, prismatic pouch).

Yup. I'm HERE not for an Equinox. I'm here because it's Ultium and the smallest/most affordable option on the forecast board at this time. If they announced a $28k Bolt EUV-sized Ultium thing for late 2025 today, I'd be figuring out how to stretch my Volt for an extra year if I could.
