Odometer inaccuracy?

Does anyone else feel like the odometer on their equinox is not accurate? I’m not saying compared to the available range or anything like that. I understand the range is just an estimate and changes. But I feel like my odometer reports more mileage than I actually drive. Has there been an issue with this mentioned by GM? Anyone else experience this? 2025 FWD LT 19 inch wheels incase it matters

I feel all kinds of things but I haven't noticed any reason to doubt the odometer reading.

An extraordinary claim like "my odometer reports more mileage than I actually drive" requires extraordinary evidence. So the only way you're gonna know for sure is to drive a route in your Equinox, and then again in another car. And it'd have to be a relatively long route (maybe 100 miles?), to be sure the difference shows up.

I'd love to see the outcome... but I've gotta be honest, I'm not volunteering to go on two long drives in the name of science. Best I can do is try to pay closer attention to the trip meter on my next long drive, and see if it matches up to... Google Maps I guess.

@BehindBars Based on the data provided, Jim99 completes a 16.8-mile run every day. Whether this is accomplished via battery power or personal cardio is a detail that remains tantalizingly unspecified. Given the context of an EV forum, one might lean towards the battery-powered interpretation, but I wouldn't want to spoil a good marathon story.

Did you put on smaller o.d. tires on your EQEV? Odometer is highly regulated by the regulation. Tampering with the accuracy would be a violation of law. I don't think GM would slip on QC on its accuracy. But if in doubt, just try driving a known distance and see if it's off. Highway mile marker as suggested by others would be a great reference points.

I drove a lot more miles in my EQEVin the first six months than I typically drove my ICE car. Like 50% more! But then I realized I volunteer to drive everywhere whenever there’s a group gathering and I am always chauffeur for work conferences and family get together. I just love driving this car and putting all my ICE friends and family in it so they can see how wonderful it is. lol. Plus… no pain at the pump!

I found myself driving a lot more since I got the EQEV for the same reasons and was still in honeymoon with my 1st EV (EQEV) until the electric bill came 2 weeks ago. We Californians are screwed by the politicians for government over-regulations that caused extravagant energy and gas prices. Last month the weather was hot so lots of AC plus new EV charging at home.

GM does have a history of being conservative on EPA numbers unlike some others. If your speedometer actually is off based on the various test methods suggested above, yes, I'd wonder about tire pressure as Anang suggests or non-oem tire size as suggested by Salkin and Obermd

This has been a problem with other cars in the past and led to class action suits because of warranty being exaggerated. Better than comparing it to a different car might be using mile markers on the freeway. Might need to go 50 miles or more to notice an effect as tenths don't register on the odometer. Tire wear can be an issue too.

The trip meters register 1/10 th of a mile.

tire wear should not cause any noticeable odometer measurement difference .
A worn out tire radius is 8/32 inch less...so for a tire and rim that say has a radius of 20 inches...it will cause a difference of 1.2% in distance travelled per rotation...so if you drive 100 miles it might show 101 miles. For a hundred mile highway trip there might be other things that will cause differences of 1% or 0.5%...you know like whether you are on the outer lanes on curves etc

Also does not the EPA put these on dynamometers to measure efficiency...distance measurements and the odometer discrepancies will appear there too...unless they do a VW cheat and have a test mode odometer reading.
