Onstar, worth it?

After my 3 month free trial I was billed $35 for Onstar, and I'm deciding whether I want to keep it or not. I've never owned a Chevy and am curious how many people actually use Onstar? Pros and Cons?

Depends on your needs. The crash response may be worth it to some, not to others. The car will function fine without that particular subscription. I never activated my "free" trial knowing I would not continue with a paid subscription.

I just use the free, included OnStar basics plan that comes with the ‘25 for 8 years. The perks offered for the upgraded billed services seemed quite worthless to me.

OnStar has not attempted to bill me for anything, nor due they have any payment info by which to charge me.

On my Bolt I have not ever used OnStar in any way and I don’t want it.

I chose not to sign up for the paid OnStar. Maps is the only thing I need and that is good for 8 years. Music I just stream over Bluetooth using my phone. That's about it. If I had SuperCruise, even that would still be active for a couple of years.

SuperCruise was a key reason I wanted my Equinox EV, so OnStar is a must. There is a 3-year plan it comes with and I definitely plan to keep this car. My '25 also came with a plan that includes satellite Internet and the wifi hotspot. Definitely worth it.

I've contacted OnStar once or twice and it was all right.

So I will weigh in and say "worth it" but not the super deluxe plans. Get what you need and that is something individual for everyone.

Getting an Equinox EV without SuperCruise is to me a "why would you do that". But that's me.

I absolutely love my car. Hope you enjoy yours as well.

My insurance recommended I get a Tag stolen vehicle tracker and my 1st year discounts paid for it. I did not need that service from OnStar anymore and cancelled.

That said, it depends on your needs. They have many packages and options. If you're on the fence, when you call to cancel, they'll probably offer a limited time discount. It will give you a few months more to see if you use any of it. Just remember to put a notification in your calendar before they bump you back to full price.

I pay for the Safety and Security package as this gets me a discount on my insurance. The rest of the plans are either ignored or part of my original purchase.

I charge my Equinox EV two floors under street level, where my cell phone doesn't get a reliable signal. When tethered to OnStar’s wifi in the car, I can initiate the ChargePoint session. It saves me from walking upstairs to get a signal, then walking back down to assure that it started charging.
