Your car has arrived! YAY!! You are excited to pick it up of course. Below are some tips that can help make your new car pickup go smoothly.

In advance of your dealer visit:
  1. Download Chevy App
  2. Set up a Google Gmail account (search the internet for Create Google account if you don't have one)
  3. Keep your order paperwork in a folder.
  4. Review the car price and fees your rep said would be part of the "out the door" total price.
  5. Ask dealer about forms of payment, some will also take credit cards up to a limit.
  6. Notify your insurance company you are buying the car. They will eventually want a VIN and other details.
  7. Tell your sales rep not to apply any dealer stickers or emblems to the car.
  8. Know what your state's EV credit system is—if any—so you know if it needs to be applied at time of sale or if you claim it later.
  9. Remove/delete any personal settings, details, map history/favorites, remote controls from the car

On the pickup day:
  1. Remind your sales rep not to apply any dealer stickers or emblems to the car.
  2. Tell your rep to save the window sticker for you.
  3. Remind the rep you expect the car to be charged to 80%
  4. Review your order paperwork and bring it with you.
  5. Make sure you have the certificates and approval numbers for any discounts such as Costco, GM Military Appreciation, etc.
  6. Bring your credit card and checkbook, assuming that's how you will be paying
  7. Bring your Gmail account info/password. Don't enter them with the rep watching of course :)

At the dealer to pickup:
  1. Inspect the top top to bottom with you finger and eyes See Fit & Finish video
  2. Inspect the interiors same way
  3. Test all switches
  4. Test remote functions
  5. Test doors
  6. Look under hood
  7. Turn on the lights, wiper, signals
  8. Look under rear deck
  9. Make sure the car has everything you ordered by comparing it to your order.
Take your time, don't let the sales rep rush you. Do this before signing the final papers and handing over the money. People have had dealers deny claims for paint issues (stains or rusty looking rail dust on roof), dents, scratches, tears, missing equipment, etc. the owner discovered after driving away.

In the dealer finance office:
  1. TAKE your time, don't be rushed. Feel free to stop the process at any time. Walk out if needed.
  2. READ what you are signing. It's a PITA but don't blindly agree to things you have not carefully read.
  3. ASK if you don't understand some legal text, have it explained. Does the explanation make sense?
  4. LOOK for any deviation from the order (extra fees, extra add-on items, etc). Have them removed.
  5. WRITE on the contract any promises the dealer makes that's not in the paperwork, have them date and initial. They won't like it, but CYA.
  6. GET IRS Form 15400 Clean Vehicle Seller Report from the dealer. Information from this report will be required to claim or reconcile a Clean Vehicle Credit on your income tax return for the year the vehicle is placed in service. This is true for those getting the $7500 tax credit deduction at point of sale and for those who claim it at tax time instead. See more details and sample here (PDF).
The dealer would of course like to rush you through, sign any paper the put in front of you collect your money and out the door you go. Avoid buyer's remorse and take your time.

After paperwork finalized:
  1. They will bring your to your car
  2. Do a quick once over in case someone damaged your car while you were signing paperwork
  3. They will show you Onstar at pickup and how to use it and want you to connect with OnStar to basically get your CC in the system. I declined ("I can add my CC later, right?")
  4. Ask the rep to go over any controls you still have questions about.
  5. Be mindful when exiting the dealer's lot. Nothing is more of a buzzkill than a fender bender driving away from the dealer.

In your driveway with the Owner's Manual:
  1. Contact your insurance agent with the VIN.
  2. How to use Google Maps and find charging stations.
  3. Download Apps (Google Calendar/Keep)
  4. Enable Google Assistant
  5. Connect your phone.
  6. Set up/use Regen breaking. (see Equinox Ed. Video on YouTube)
  7. How to charge the car
  8. What is the suggested PSI on the tires
  9. Use the key fob
Hopefully you've already watched a lot of reviews, gone through the Chevy Equinox YouTube training videos and been watching this forum to increase your knowledge. But hands on can be a little different than watching a video :)

Steve, thanks for the checklist. I think it will be helpful when my 3LT arrives in a couple of weeks.

After picking up the car I starting home and then stopped to set up my google account. I had already set up OnStar but declined the free upgrade for a month as I would have to give them a credit card. I could not set up my google account and hence the voice commands for directions did not work. It took a few call to EV C and OnStar and eventually they got it to work but the next day it stop and I had to call again to get it working. The sent me an email that they are working on it. Otherwise, I love the car and all the features and ride. RS AWD sterling grey

One other item - before you pick up make sure you have the certificates and approval numbers for any discounts such as Costco, GM Military Appreciation, etc. Also know what your state's EV credit system is, if any, so you know if it needs to be applied at time of sale or if you claim it later.

If you are trading in a vehicle that has a built in universal remote, don't forget to wipe its garage door and other codes.
