Electric Vertical Take Off & Landing air-taxi's will fly from downtown Chicago to O'Hare International Airport in 10 min. vs. 35-60 minutes for ground transport. Archer Aviation and United Airlines partnership plan to open the flight path between downtown and O’Hare International Airport in 2025.
"United placed an order for 200 eVTOL aircraft from Archer back in 2021 at a cost of $1 billion. The startup has also raised money from the automaker Stellantis, which has been helping the company with making carbon fiber composites. Last year, the airline ordered at least 200 electric flying taxis from Eve Air Mobility; that followed a $10 million deposit it placed with Archer the month prior.
The Archer Midnight has a range of 100 miles (160 km) and a top speed of 150 mph (241 km/h).
The company hopes to make the service competitive with Uber Black, so it will be roughly $100 for the trip."
I must say that it would be interesting to fly (ride) in one of them. Our LA division had approved those eVTOLs for flight. AugustaWestland in Philadelphia an Italian subsidiary of Augusta is readying the AW609 which also looks very interesting.
We've had 30+ years working out the control problems based on the Osprey history. It seems at least possible, though I think they'll actually start closer to 2030 than 2025.
