Hey,

I am sure someone on this forum transition from Bolt EUV to Equinox EV, wanted to get some first hand experience on Pros/Cons with the transition.

I own a 2023 Bolt EUV LT and absolutely love it. With all the recent deals on Equinox, I am tempted to looking into a Base model LT.

I love Bolt's drive performance & efficiency. How does Equinox compare to Bolt?

Lots of people moved from the Bolt EV/EUV to the Equinox EV. I still have my Bolt EV.
Bigger car
Bigger battery
More range
Nicer ride.
More interior room.
More tech.
No Start button.
Regen paddle on wheel operates differently.

I own both a Bolt EV and an Equinox EV. They are both great cars, with different qualities. The Bolt is somewhat better on efficiency, although I don't have enough miles on the EQ to really judge. So far the EQ is at about 3.6 mi/kwh, which is great for winter in Colorado. I love the Bolt for shorter trips and errands, and plan for a long 2000 mi round trip with the EQ soon.
I traded in my Tesla Model Y on the EQ, and find that the EQ is waaay nicer, quieter and a much smoother ride. The fit and finish of the EQ is superior to the Y. Also the EQ is much better range, and more honest than the Y. Tesla tends to exaggerate their range, where Chevy seems to underestimate theirs. My average over 30k miles with the Tesla was 2.4 mi/kwh.

I made the jump from a Bolt EV to an Equinox EV. I was averaging 4.6 miles per kwh over a two year period. With the Equinox over a six month period, I'm averaging 4.4 miles per kwh. The efficiency really depends on your driving style.

The difference between the Bolt and the Equinox EV is highlighted in the post by @Steverino .

The winter so far in New Jersey has not been very cold, but I have seen about a 20% drop on the coldest of our days where we were in the high 20's. Use the seat warmers, the heated steering wheel and keep the cabin temperature at 70 degrees and the range drop is acceptable.

My daughter visited over Christmas and had driven the Equinox to a local supermarket and back. She commented on the Equinox and told me I finally had a "proper" vehicle. I replied back to her that it wasn't so much having a proper vehicle, but it's more of a comparison between apples and oranges. Both are great vehicles and have their own strong points. However, it really comes down to what your needs are and what you can afford.

I do miss my Bolt as I found it to be a great little vehicle, but the Equinox EV gives me more of what I really need.

Thank you, I think you mention great point about what you need and what you can afford. Based on your numbers for efficiency. I don't see that a big drop and can live with that.

I have owned bolt for little over 15 months now, so far the car has been great for me as my daily driver. No complains, it gets the job done.

There has been maybe 1-2 instances where I wished that the trunk space might have been little bigger (when I had to pick a family member from airport with more than 2 piece of big checked bags). Most of my charging is at home, I did one trip where I had to use Fast charger on the road. Bolt's slow fast charging speed definitely added 20 extra minute to our 360+ miles round trip.

I like the aesthetic of equinox EV plus roomier along with faster Fast charging but it comes down to if I want to spend potentially 5-10K (after my bolt trade-in). Hence me putting together a Pros-Cons list.

Yes! Just picked up the Equinox Saturday. My son, after giving me the Gm discount code, asked about what I was buying. He then traded his Premier yesterday. We both drove 23 Euvs, with mine being the LT. My mistake in the trade was that I test-drove a model that had loads of options. The dealership was scummy, so I switched. I asked for the LT with no options thinking that "park assist" used front cameras. Nope- I needed the comfort package to get the 360 camera. My son got his Bolt paid off, the comfort package and got his car out the door for $22,000. He also got financing at 1.6% or something like that. He now has a shorter loan that his original Bolt loan and dropped over a $100 on his payment. I cannot believe how much the car for the money. Here is a list of pros and cons for you:

Pro:
  • Far more room, seats are much more comfortable, far more storage area in the back
  • Drives super smooth on the freeway
  • Even my zero-option LT model feels like all of the basics are covered very well as far as comfort
  • The cloth seats are surprisingly good fabric-wise (I am super picky about this)
  • It is not quite as quick and peppy as the Bolt, but it has plenty of power. No issue accelerating off of stop lights, onto freeways, etc.
  • The range is glorious next to the Bolt. My Bolt at 100% was only getting me 155 miles this winter, so this is a huge upgrade.

Cons:
  • Parking it is a nightmare for me. I am blind in my right eye so no depth perception. I can't see the front at all, so I have to 100% guess if I am about to smash into a car. Hence, the 360 mirror is highly recommended. I will adjust eventually, I think, as I have only driven it home from the dealership.
  • The quality of the radio sound is cheap. I don't care personally, but this will be a problem for you if you are an audiophile.
  • This car is much bigger, so you will not be nearly as efficient with your electric usage. I noticed 2.8 on my drive home, and it was maybe 45 degrees out, 70 mph.

I LOVED my Bolt EUV!! Fast, fun to drive. 'Funner' than the Equinox......but I'm probably a better driver now. Not as tempted to want to be the first one off from a dead stop at street lights, and not as many quick maneuvers. Our Equinox is bigger - so the luggage issue, while infrequent, is real. Yes, I miss who fun the Bolt was, but am glad to now own the Equinox. Longer range, roomier, more practical.
