Mine does it too. Seems to be a glitch with these cars. I had mine set to 75% and I didn't drive it for about 4 days... when I got in the car it was at 95%.

I can't leave this one plugged in like I did my Bolt. Hopefully if enough people complain they'll figure out a way to get it resolved.
I have experienced that while charging. Overshoots always.

What I think happens is that it charges normally to where you have it set (in my case 75%), but once the charge is 'complete', it slows to a trickle, rather than stopping completely. This isn't noticeable if the car just sits for a day or two, but if it's sits plugged-in for 4 or 5 days then the charge level will be way over where you set it.
When charging is complete, the car cuts it off completely. No trickle.

Okay, so I didn't have a 'home location' set. I do now, and I'll see if it changes anything. I don't know why it would though, since I already had the limit set to 75%.

Thanks, Iv'e seen it happen at 120V 8A as well. So it's not related to the incoming power.

A few days at 95% won't kill it. If it does it consistently, try lowering the SoC setting a bit, WhiteLux. Nothing drastic, maybe try 75% or 78%.
Is there a way to set it to something other than increments of 5%? I didn't see a way to do that.

Why would you want to? I mean...it's not that precise, so....a couple of notches won't really make any difference, or, hey what the heck do I know? I keep mine at 80, it'll range up to 85... :)

It only works in 5% increments. I originally had mine set to 80%, but right now I have it backed off just a bit to 75%.

Mine went to 96% on a target of 80% being plugged in for 3 days over Christmas.

OK, the battery has to learn and that does occur. My first 3-4 weeks it was pretty inaccurate, but since has settled to within a 10% up and down range. Hope this helps.

@Ian VanKirk You can use the MyChevrolet app to find out what time the targeted charge level will be reached, and it tells you that right as you begin charging. And you can also have it email you when charging is completed. So it’s easy to figure out when to unplug it.

I'm still exploring what it can do and not do. With usable daily range suggested between 80% (about 259) and 20% (about 64?), that's 195. However, I believe it issued a dashboard warning at 25% the other day, before I engaged in regular nightly plugging in. (Side question: I would like to find a way to adjust that 25% warning if I can.) In winter with cold and snow/rain that 195 is reduced by maybe another 50 so that's 145. It would be nice to get another ten or twenty at the edges if it wouldn't hurt the battery, but I would need to be able to set to 82% on charging and run without warnings to 18%.

No way to adjust warnings, any warnings, that I have seen Illini. It's not like some Alerts you can disable in Settings. Anyway, if it was adjustable it would be in Settings, Controls, or Charging.

Have you also verified your charge limit in both your daily schedules and your next charge ("charge now/charge later") screen? Changing anything in the "next charge" screen can override the settings in the daily schedules when at home.

Charging our EQEV based on the programmed schedule has been flawless, until today. I have "home" set and plug the car into the OEM white EVSE (240V/32A) as soon as I get out. The car is programmed to charge to 80% by 7am everyday which I confirm on the dash before walking away. Charging to these parameters has performed perfectly, every day for over a month. The car has been parked/connected for the past 2-3 days. This morning I opened the MyChevy app and it indicated that the charge level was at 100% and that this was higher than the set charge value of 80%. This tells me the car knew I requested a charge to 80%, but it exceeded this value. We've had the car 2 months and logged 1,600 miles. This is the first time the car doesn't charge as programmed. Besides exceeding my requested charge level, the other odd behavior is that remote start would not execute. I received a message asking me to physically start the car in order to reestablish a connection. I approached the car, the door handles presented themselves and the app then immediately updated to say the car had started and was warming up the cabin.

On 4 occasions I have asked the car to "Charge Later" to 100% by a certain time and each of these sessions have been executed successfully and a text message was sent. I confirm "Charge Now" is then set.

I am now concerned about how the car will behave if I leave it plugged in while away on a 1-2 week trip. It gets cold here in the PNW, so I am interested in providing external power to the batteries while idle/away, but not if the battery is randomly charged to high levels. I read the comments about the car and battery needing time to get to know each other, but given that I have not had a single issue until this morning, I am watching things closely.

And while typing this post just know, I went to launch the myChevy app, but I have a screen that says,
"Service is currently unavailable. Service will resume shortly." Now I am also wondering if there are connectivity issues that are affecting the expected charging behavior. If the car doesn't know it's "home", does it use "charge later" parameters instead even if "charge later" was not requested?

Sounds similar to my experience.

If the car doesn't know it's home, it should "charge now," just as if you are at a charger away from home. Is "charge now" also set to 100%?

I try to avoid the "Charge now/Charge later" screen, as anytime you change a setting there, it overrides your home charge schedule for the next charge.

So it happened again. Set the level to 70% this time before leaving town and left it plugged in since temps were supposed to get into the teens before returning. On the 6th day it shot up to 96%. I think in the future I’ll just charge to 80% and leave it unplugged. I think it will be just fine.

Better to leave it plugged in for a few days. If you want use a timer that will go on just a few hours a day. You do not want to return to a cold dead battery.

WhiteLux, thanks for updating your Account Settings Signature and Vehicle Details with your Equinox EV information!
  • Each sub-forum here has one or more "stickies", threads that will always display at the top of the list of posts in that forum. These would be good for review as they usually deal with common questions, concerns, issues.
  • GM also has training videos on YouTube for the Equinox EV, great for a quick overview.
  • I also recommend downloading the complete Owner's manual from the Chevy website as it has answers for many of the "what is it? where is it, how do I" questions people have.

If you have the vehicle's charge set to terminate at 80%, and it goes higher, don't worry. If you will be gone for 1-2 weeks, leave it without being attached to your charger. I'll bet it would only use a single number of percent of total charge maintaining your batteries to a high enough temperature during cold weather.

In order to avoid overshooting 80%, I’ve set my charging limit to 75%, with excellent results:
