Not that folks can't figure this out for themselves, but if anyone is wondering, there are screaming deals out there on Equinox EVs (and a lot of other EVs.) If you are aren't sure, this is your confirmation. We bought our 2nd one yesterday. I spent a couple of days calling dealerships earlier in the week. By Thursday, they were all calling me, and the price was falling by a $1k per call... The dealerships were eager to get into a battle with each other, and not shy about it. I named my price and they got there without hesitation. And GM tossed in another $1000 discount a couple of days ago.

I've only seen this kind of market once before, and that was when the economy locked up completely in 2008 or 9, when the dealerships were dumping everything they could for what every they could get just to keep the doors open.

I did get to speak to a couple of the places' GSMs and one owner. One of them freely admitted that EVs are now a problem and need to get sold NOW. All of them have hope that GM will come though with something to make up for the lost FTC (Like what they did for the Blazer EV when they lost it the first time around.) or Adjusted MSRPs. Some Volt owners remember that sting!!) I think they will have to do something, but I'm not sure the deals will get better than now.

Anyways, if you are in the market, or even close to it, this week is a great time to deal. I had to turn down 3 different deals that were all excellent because one dealership REALLY wanted my business.

Yeah, I've kind of been waiting for the big crash. But this is more than good enough to get me to make the deal. I'll take the bird in the hand now for 43% off. If it gets substantially better that than in the near future, I'll be prepared with my next move.

LT FWD with the $8300 convenience package. (I would call it an LT2, but that's not what is on the sticker.) $43885 with the dual level EVSE and Mudflaps. A bunch of those are around, at least around here. And a bunch of these with the AWD option are here as well. Some RSs with similar equipment around here, too. NO base level LTs left. Only a few higher level trims out there with Supercruise/HUD/Sunroof stuff. Dealers say the base LTs went really fast. Folks know a good deal when they see it.

$43885 is the MSRP of the one that I just bought. I'm OTD for $28500 plus they threw in a GM Powerup 2 wall charger. (I think GM gave a bunch of these to dealers to sweeten deals if needed, and/or to go with a batch of cars that were ordered with them. It wasn't hard to get that tossed into the deal, a good deal, but I doubt they cost the dealer much.)

You are right, battery tech will continue to improve, and it is looking like a swing back to the left might well happen sooner rather than later. And they would likely bring us back to the world of incentives. Until then, happy driving!

Dealer also threw in a $699 GM Power up 2 EVSE, as noted above. I have not decided to keep this or sell it, but if I sell it, I'm thinking $400-500. There are a bunch on ebay for a lot more. (And if you look at later window stickers, this same EVSE shows a price of $899!)

Rebates include FTC $7500, GM Card $ and GM Points of @$1000, GM $3000 customer cash, GM $1000 EV incentive, GM Barclays credit card Offer $500, and who knows what else. Some things, I don't ask....

I do NOT have Conquest, Employee Discount, Costco, Educator, Military, or other. I wish I did!!!!

When I do a deal, I present my offer as OTD. Fees, how they write the deal and such, that is up to them. I know my all in bottom line and they can get there or not. I suspect they did some internal maneuvering to get to my price, but they did what every they did. As far as I'm concerned, that car cost me under $25k + tax and reasonable fees. That is on the order of 43% off MSRP. I call that a screaming deal. We already have one and are very happy with that (with the exception of the windshield glare that I've fixed with the DashPads that I make, and the windshield wipers that don't wipe the whole windshield.) It isn't a rocket ship, but it gets the job done very well, range and charging is great for the price, it drives well, and holds what I need. I call it an honest car. It doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is. And it does its job well. For that price, I'm a buyer.

A final note- We LOVED our Volts, had plenty of them over the years. A stunningly good car, a technological breakthrough that was probably 10 years ahead of its time. Certainty had a couple of warts, but all cars do. Sad to say it, but GM was right to move on from them for several reasons. (Cost to manufacture, lack of understanding by dealers and the public, complexity, technology changes, politics...) But GM has another winner here. As long as they can keep the price right.

Those deals were in the past. Currently as we barrel towards the expiration date of the 7500 tax incentive, the really good deals are over.
Find a dealer that is motivated by the number of cars on their lot. They will still deal. This is a big game of chicken right now. Don't flinch and you can still win. As September 30 gets closer and closer, that may change, but dealerships really don't want to get stuck with a ton of EVs on their lot. There is a big one here that has 166 Equinox EVs on the lot as of last night. They sell a lot of cars, but they have near zero chance of clearing all those cars in the next week. They had 225 cars about 2 weeks ago. And they are showing more and more 26s on the way, so more are still coming. They aren't saying much about the number of cars, but they are dealing. The other dealership that I talked to here said outright that they didn't want to get stuck, and they gave me the price I wanted in 1 phone call. Now is a good time to play their game. You have a TON of leverage. And it is all about leverage.

It is a volume dealership thing. One of the largest Chevy dealerships on the country. As of this morning, they were down to 120 Equinox EVs showing. Good progress, but more work to do. If you are willing to drive, there is a smaller dealership around that has some cars left and I’m pretty sure would get you a similar deal to what t got.
