Note: Throughout the past several weeks, I've tried several times to reboot the infotainment system to re-establish access to Google Assistant via the "hold the 'phone call ended' button 20 seconds solution. It never worked.
I experience intermittent inoperability of Google Assistant and the OnStar button doesn't connect to OnStar. This last time was particularly long-- 2 weeks. The dealer had previously re-established connectivity with OnStar and Google Assistant via a 1 hour "dealer-only" software solution, when the OnStar button was orange. This time, the OnStar button was green when I took it into the dealer. The dealer's technician claimed that this time OnStar connectivity existed (hence green OnStar button rather than orange) but that I had the wrong OnStar package and needed to upgrade. I actually had the correct package but upgraded anyway to get rid of the technician's complaint. The upgrade (from something in the $25 range to something in the $34 range) didn't solve the problem. I called OnStar (using my iPhone) because my next dealer appointment was still 5 days away. I had scheduled a third dealer appointment while at the second appointment due to my inherent skepticism of technicians seeking easy solutions. Two representatives of OnStar were unable to solve the problem and it was escalated to a "senior representative" who didn't call, despite a promise to do so, even after 5 days. Ultimately, I decided to do a fast charge to see if somehow that might make a difference. Perhaps it's a coincidence but the problem resolved and Google Assistant functionality was restored. I had to re-connect my iPhone to the vehicle and my contacts list as well, but otherwise full functionality of Google Assistant has been restored. I am now able to again connect to OnStar via the OnStar button. Between the time that I bought the new package and the time that I did the fast charge I didn't have reason to use my Level 2 home charger but perhaps that would have worked as well (assuming this isn't just some coincidence).
