It's been a little over 4 months since installing the Draw-Tite hitch on the Equinox EV. After a dozen trips pulling our smallish utility trailer, I'm pretty happy with the car as a tow vehicle. The most frequent destination was a laboratory about 30 miles away at the NIH where DOGE cancelled their grant, and large furniture and fixtures were free for the taking. The heaviest load was about 700 ibs of lumber and plywood from the lumber yard. We also helped Uncle Carl get moved out of one nursing home and into another. Piece of cake!

The longest trip is the one we're on now - 160 miles to the beach for a week. On the trailer are 2 kayaks, 2 bicycles, and a large aluminum job box filled with suitcases, dry goods and important beach equipment. I'd say about 350 lbs.

I was a little worried at first. The kW/mile dropped to 1.9 shortly after setting off on this trip and at that rate we weren't going to make it without stopping to charge. We've made this trip may times in the 2019 Bolt and have needed to charge about half the time depending on weather and how much stuff is on the trailer. With the Equinox, the distance started to creep up once we crossed over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge from the hilly western side to the very flat Eastern Shore. By the time we arrived, the average kW/mile had improved to 2.4 and there was plenty juice left in the battery. Also, the temp was about 85Âş and the AC was on the whole way.

All and all, this is a great tow vehicle. My only complaint is it's wider than the Bolt and harder to see the trailer when backing up. I'm getting used to it.

I have the same exact car and color
I got a factory hitch installed by the dealership but they said they couldn’t wire in the harness. I have wanted to try to tackle the wiring part myself. Is yours wired? As of now I just have a hitch that I can only use for my bike RACK and luggage rack but would like to wire in the harness so I can use my utility trailer for hauling limbs off

Jim is out having fun so he may not get back to right away. In the meantime, you might want to look at this detailed thread by the OP (JimM) regarding your exact question. It should all be there but if not then let him know and I'm sure he could help.
