Scissors jack with battery pneumatic Ryobi tool lifted the vehicle in about 30 seconds and fit the raise point perfectly. I was surprised how fast and was very stable. Will look for used scissors jack soon so I do need to use wife's blazer jack
 
Does anyone have a good recommendation for a floor jack? I have a floor jack rated at 2 tons and I’m concerned about using it for tire rotations. I’m thinking that a 3 ton jack with the proper pad would be the way to go.

The Equinox EV is basically 5,000 lbs. To be safe, a scissors or hydraulic jack rated at 3 tons should be used. Using a 3 ton hydraulic jack with a JackPoint, Rennstand, or SafeJack would be the way to go in my opinion, Jim. Or, take it to Discount Tire.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but unless you use your floor jack to lift the car entirely off the ground, you only need your jack to support the part of the car you are lifting.

In round numbers, lifting the front of our 5000lb car is 2500lbs of load, or 1.25 ton. The remainder of the car's weight continue to be supported by the opposite axle. That's well within a 2 ton jack's nameplate rating, to say nothing of a 2 or 3 to 1 safety factor they are likely to have designed in.

A bigger jack is safer, of course, and probably more stable (ie, bigger) but with that comes a higher weight and cost.
Regardless of the rating, any jack can fail. Always use a jack stand as a backup. Don't ever go under a car without a safety device of some kind.

Yes, I'd rather well exceed the minimums. I am erroring on the side of (extreme?) safety, DarkDan72. Belt and suspenders. The cost difference between a 2 ton vs 3 ton jack is minimal. Propping up the car on a cheap Chinese pogo stick fills me with dread, YMMV.
 
With the limited lift and support points on the Equinox a good jack is a must. From what I have seen just kneeling down and locking in past my floor jack it is not real practical to use a jack and a stand.

True. Unless you are using a stand designed to work with a s jack like the JackPoint, Rennstand, or SafeJack.

I picked up a set of those also. When I was talking with the shop I'll be getting my snow tires from we discussing lifting the car and I showed him them and they will be using them.
I like the design of these. Does anyone besides Canadian Tire carry these? Seems like they don't ship to the U.S.

I just rotated my tires yesterday. I could have had the dealer do it, but I prefer doing it myself. I used two 3-ton floor jacks (after checking them to make sure they would hold up the car for >1 hour), as follows:
  1. Set parking brake. Loosen all lug nuts but keep snug.
  2. Place wheel chocks on right side. Jack up left side of car using both rocker lift points.
  3. Swap front & rear tires, snugging lug nuts. Lower jacks.
  4. Place wheel chocks on left side. Jack up right side of car using both rocker lift points.
  5. Swap front & rear tires, snugging lug nuts. Lower jacks.
  6. Jack up front end of car using both front rocker lift points, with wheel chocks on a rear tire.
  7. Swap left & right front tires, snugging lug nuts. Lower jacks.
  8. Torque all lug nuts to 140 ft. lb.
  9. Reprogram tire pressure monitors (select on screen, then deflate each tire until beep, then reinflate). I didn't have to deflate each tire very much. I have a relearn tool I used on my Trailblazer, but I didn't try it.
I know one should use jack stands, too, but I didn't see a good place to put them. As I said, I had checked my floor jacks beforehand to verify that they don't leak down.

I used the following pad on one of my floor jacks, which worked well:

Just checked my half moon points and see that there is a plastic molded part of the rocker panel that would come into contact with this style of puck . Not much clearance there for the front point. Better be careful, but not sure if all Eqi's have a plastic rocker cover.
 
Tried a pic but it doesn't show the depth properly, so I measured it and looking at 3 8ths of an inch clearance between the jack point and that plastic piece . The puck might fit without breaking anything but it would be a very close fit given its a 5k lbs vehicle. ???
 
Just purchase a used car jack off eBay that fits an equinox gas model. It’s the same jacking points. Sure the EV is heavier then the gas model but the scissor jack is 2 ton and we are talking about lifting 1 corner of the vehicle. The same jack will work on the EV. You all are over thinking this. You sound like a bunch of EV drivers. Lol
 
GM doesn't want unnecessary torsion on the body. SO it's either lifted on all 4 sides at once or both jack points on one side.

  • Each sub-forum here has one or more "stickies", threads that will always display at the top of the list of posts in that forum. These would be good for review as they usually deal with common questions, concerns, issues.
  • GM also has training videos on YouTube for the Equinox EV, great for a quick overview.
  • I also recommend downloading the complete Owner's manual from the Chevy website as it has answers for many of the "what is it? where is it, how do I" questions people have.

Where have you seen this? Are you saying we should not jack the car up at 1 lifting point? I certainly don't have 2 jacks at home.
 
it has been seen on a few pages on the service guide and other documentation. It has been posted around but can't pull it up right now.
 
I’ve had a Cruze in past. My wife has a gas equinox and my kids have a trailblazer and Malibu. All 4 vehicles have the half moon at the jacking points and all used the identical scissor jack. Just saying
